Outhouse Mailbox Stand
This mailbox stand was a recent custom order. The customer showed me a photo to see if I could make it. I could find no published plans anywhere for making one of these. In doing my research I did find that the USPS has a height requirement for the mailbox opening. That coupled with the mailbox provided, dictated, in part, how I would have to build this enclosure.
Outhouse Mailbox Stand
The unit stands flush on the ground and has installed tie downs to keep it from being stolen or knocked over. It will weather over time and look like an old outhouse, which was the idea.
Crescent Moon
The crescent moon and the tin roof, and a couple things very slightly off kilter will really lend to that appearance once it gets weathered.
Outhouse Mailbox
This unit is just a little over 5 feet tall, and the base is approximately 12 inches by `8 inches. The mailbox was provided by the customer. The mailbox opening is 41 inches from the ground per USPS specifications. We also agreed to use a little less than top quality lumber to help with the “aged” appearance.
